Wildflower Grannies – CAL Instructions

The Wildflowers Grannies – CAL started life as a “put down your phone” challenge, issued by a friend. Her challenge was to make little crochet squares, I decided to make them flowers.  I have been making these little flower squares in between other things for quite some time now. They are a great “on the go” project, perfect for TV crochet, chatting on the phone, waiting in queues …

There are eight different flower squares and two different background squares. Make all of them or only the ones you like. How many you need will depend on what you decide to make.

The Wildflower Grannies are great stash busters, they need very little yarn for each section. You can use any weight yarn but use the same weight for the centres and the squares, to keep them all an equal size.

Wildflower Grannies Kits are available or you may prefer to choose your own  Pure Cotton DK colours.

Size:

• Scatter Cushion Covers   Small – 40 x 40 cm, Large – 50 x 50 cm
• Knee Rug 86 x 106 cm
• Rectangular Throw  117 x 156 cm
• Square Afghan  144 x 144 cm

You will need:

• ColourSpun Pure Cotton DK (OR yarn of your choice) – how much you need depends on your project, the yarn you choose and your personal tension.
• Crochet hook size to suit yarn.

Below I have detailed the amount of yarn I used for the squares I made. Use this as a guide only as your tension may be different. You will also need yarn for joining and for a border if you choose to have one.

I have used ColourSpun Pure Cotton DK and a 4mm hook. 

Each wildflower square uses approximately 5g / 12.5m of yarn.  

• Centre:               0.5g / 1.25m
• Petals:                2 g / 5g
• Backround:        2.5g / 6.25m  

Each background square uses approximately 3g / 7.5m.
