Use Portuguese Knitting Hooks for the Portuguese style of knitting. It is also known as Incan or Andean knitting, since this is the style that’s commonly used in South America.<\/p>\n

Attach the Portuguese Knitting Hook to your clothing at your left shoulder. Pass the yarn from the work in your left hand, through the hook to the yarn ball, which is kept lower than the hands. Tension the yarn with the right hand, and knit with a flick of the left thumb bringing the yarn up to form the new stitch.<\/p>\n

This style of knitting makes it easy to keep a good tension on the work, even for beginners, and purling is much easier too.<\/p>\n

Choose the Portuguese knitting method if you have joint pain from arthritis or carpal tunnel,\u00a0 because very little movement is needed to form the stitches. It’s also easier to work colorwork because you can strand each colour through a different knitting hook, which keeps them from tangling.<\/p>\n
