Make your own Rose Neck Piece<\/h2>\n\n

Rose Neck Piece Instructions, so that you can wear your garden on your neck. This lovely neck piece can be made using either wool or cotton making it suitable to wear in winter or summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Leave the wire neck ring out, if you prefer a softer, less structured version. Instead, add a button and loop closure to the ends of your i-cord or make the necklace long enough to go over your head and stitch the ends of the i-cord together.<\/p>\n\n

You will need<\/h3>\n\n

ColourSpun Pure Merino DK<\/a>, Cotton Scintilla DK<\/a> or Pure Cotton DK Happies<\/a>. 1 in your chosen colour for the neck ring and\u00a0 1 each in assorted \u201crose\u201d colours for the rose necklace.<\/p>\n\n

French knitting dolly or circular or double pointed knitting needles 3 or 4mm<\/p>\n\n

Knitting needles \u2013 3 or 3.5mm<\/p>\n\n

Crochet hook \u2013 3 or 3.5mm<\/p>\n\n

Scissors or snips<\/p>\n\n

Knitters needle (rounded point) for sewing up<\/p>\n\n

Wire neck ring (available from jewellery findings stores)<\/p>\n\n

Rose Neck Piece Pattern Instructions<\/h2>\n\n

Knitted I-cord<\/h3>\n\n

I- Cord is tubular knitting done on 2 double pointed needles or on one circular needle. This gives the same result as knitting on a french knitting dolly but with the added benefit of being able to increase and decrease the number of stitches and also of being able to vary the thickness of the yarn used.<\/p>\n\n

C\/on 4 stitches<\/p>\n\n

**knit across<\/p>\n\n

Slide the sts back across to the other end of the needle without turning and pull the yarn firmly across the back of your work<\/p>\n\n

Repeat from ** until your cord is the required length.<\/p>\n\n

Cut yarn, leaving a 20cm tail. Thread through sts and fasten off. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n

This will give you a stocking stitch cord \u2013 smooth side out.<\/p>\n\n

For a reverse stocking stitch cord \u2013 pull the yarn across the front of your work to begin knitting the next row.<\/p>\n\n

Make your Necklace<\/h3>\n\n

Begin by making a French knitting cord long enough to cover your neck ring (if you are not sure if it will fit, rather make it too long than too short). Do not end it off before removing it from your knitting dolly\/ needles. Cover your neck ring by sliding the knitted cord over it from one side and then if necessary unravel some knitting until it is a perfect fit \u2013 Not stretched and not gathered. Cut your yarn leaving about a 20cm tail and thread onto knitter\u2019s needle. End off cord by passing yarn through all 4 stitches and pull tight. Tightly wind the tail around the end of the cord and end off by threading the yarn under the binding. Snip off end close to work. Repeat for the other side.<\/p>\n\n

You now have a covered neck piece to embellish with roses.<\/p>\n\n

Roses for Your Rose Neck Piece<\/h4>\n\n

Crochet.<\/strong> Large rose<\/em> \u2013 start with 8 chain. Work 2 single crochet into each chain. Turn and work 2 single crochet into each stitch. Work 2 more rows increasing into each stitch. End off leaving a tail of about 20cm. Wind crochet into rose shape and stitch to hold. Position on neckpiece and attach.<\/p>\n\n

Small rose<\/em> \u2013 work as for large rose but start with 5 chain and work only 3 rows.<\/p>\n\n

Knit. <\/strong>Large rose<\/em> \u2013 Cast on 10 stitches. Work 4 rows in stocking stitch increasing into ever stitch on every row. Cast off leaving a tail of about 20cm. Wind knitting into rose shape and stitch to hold. Position on neckpiece and attach.<\/p>\n\n

Small rose<\/em> \u2013 Work as for large rose but cast on 7 stitches and work 3 rows before casting off.<\/p>\n\n

Leaves for Your Rose Neck Piece<\/h4>\n\n

Knit \u2013 work in stocking stitch.<\/p>\n\n

Leaving a 20cm tail, cast on 3 stitches and work 2 rows.<\/p>\n\n

Next row \u2013 K3 into 1st<\/sup> stitch, K2 into 2nd<\/sup> stitch and K3 into last stitch (8 stitches)<\/p>\n\n

Work 3 rows<\/p>\n\n

Next row: K2tog through back of loop, K4, K2tog<\/p>\n\n

Next row: purl<\/p>\n\n

Next row: K2tog tbl, K2, K2tog<\/p>\n\n

Next row: K2tog tbl, K2tog<\/p>\n\n

Next row: P2tog<\/p>\n\n

End off leaving a 20cm tail.<\/p>\n

Position your leaves and roses on your rose neck piece and attach securely, trimming any yarn tails neatly.<\/p>\n\n
