The Counting Tool Notion Box lid is based on a vintage knitting row counter.  The one I have was my grandmother’s.  It’s an MP Handy Guide for Knitting and Crochet and was made in Britain around the 1930’s. 

The arrows slide up and down to help you keep track of rows or rounds, increases and decreases and pattern repeats. Use it for knitting or crochet and any other crafts that you may need to keep track of rows, rounds and anything else you need to count. The Knit and Crochet Counting Tool is also available in 2 sizes without the box .
